Labuschagne Omitted from Australian ODI Lineup Against India

Labuschagne finds himself omitted from the three-game ODI series against India, as in-form Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw getting a unexpected call-up.

Recent Form Result in Omission

The right-hander was left out from the one-day international squad after being dismissed for one in both of his innings during the top-end series against South Africa in August. The right-hander has a best innings of forty-seven in his last 10 ODI innings.

The batsman has played 68 ODIs and accumulated 1,871 runs at an average of 34.64 runs per dismissal, but will now focus on earning a return to the Test side ahead of the Ashes beginning in Perth on 21 November.

Renshaw's Return and Team Changes

Labuschagne has shown signs of a return to form with a score of 160 for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield this week, while Renshaw also hit a hundred for the Bulls in the identical match against Tasmania.

Renshaw could to make his ODI debut in the forthcoming series against India after last being included in an ODI squad in 2022.

He has played 14 Tests with the last coming in India in 2023 but is also aiming for a return to the Test team as Australia look for a fix to their opening batting issues.

Bowling Returns and Fitness Updates

Left-arm quick Mitchell Starc returns for the ODI series against India after being rested since performing well for Australia in the whitewash of West Indies in July.

Big Bash star Mitch Owen could make his ODI debut after suffering a concussion in the build-up to Australia’s most recent 50-over series against South Africa.

ODI captain Pat Cummins remains on the sidelines as he hopes to heal from a spinal issue in time to lead Australia in the opening Test of the Ashes in November.

Team Announcement Strategy and Fixtures

Australia have selected a squad for only the initial two T20 matches against India with the Ashes on the horizon, although Glenn Maxwell will miss all of the five-game T20 series due to a wrist injury sustained in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will captain both the ODI and T20 sides after hitting a ton in the final game against New Zealand to clinch a series clean sweep last week.

“Selectors have announced a squad for the ODI series and initial two matches of the T20 series as there will be player management through the later stages of the series as individuals prepare for the summer through domestic first-class matches,” Australia chair of selectors George Bailey said.
“The bulk of the T20 squad will stay as a group as it’s an crucial phase in the preparation for the World Cup next year, however we are trying to strike a balance to ensure we simultaneously get ready certain individuals for the Test series ahead.”

Australia’s three-game ODI series against India commences on 19 October in Perth, before the rivals play five T20s from 29 October.
