One-time NFL Star Antonio Brown Enters Not Guilty Plea in Attempted Murder Case
One-time NFL player Antonio Brown is returning to Miami to confront an attempted murder charge stemming from a gunfire that took place in May, with his counsel filing a not guilty declaration on his behalf.
Detention documents in Essex, New Jersey, indicate that Brown was discharged on Tuesday early for his transfer to Florida. Brown, one of the most popular athletes in the National Football League, had forgone extradition to Florida from New Jersey, where he was taken after being apprehended in Dubai.
Brown’s attorney, Mark Eiglarsh, mentioned in an message that he has earlier lodged a documented innocent plea to the attempted murder allegation. Brown could be in a Miami courtroom as soon as Wednesday morning for a bail hearing, Eiglarsh added.
As per his detention order, Brown is charged of seizing a firearm from a protection staffer after a star fighting contest in May and firing multiple bullets at a man he had clashed with earlier. The claimed target, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, stated to police that one of the bullets grazed his throat.
Eiglarsh said that Brown was simply protecting himself from Nantambu.
“The steps he was forced to take were purely in defense against the alleged victim’s violent actions. Brown was assaulted that time and responded within his lawful privilege to defend himself,” Eiglarsh commented.
Brown was not right away apprehended because originally police did not recognize Nantambu as a affected party. It not until afterward in May that Nantambu provided a full account about the event to officers and pointed out Brown as the perpetrator, the document says.
According to his social media updates, Brown had been staying in the city of Dubai for a number of period. In a message after the confrontation, Brown claimed he was protecting himself because he was “assaulted by multiple individuals who attempted to rob my jewelry and inflict personal damage to me.”
A category two murder attempt allegation in Florida bears a maximum 15-year jail sentence and up to a $10,000 penalty in the instance of a guilty verdict.
Brown has faced multiple judicial issues over the period. He before had been alleged of assault of a truck operator, multiple domestic violence accusations, failure to pay parental support and additional events.
In a 2021 game with Tampa Bay against the Jets, Brown removed his shirt, shoulder pads and gloves and left the field, resulting in his dismissal by the team and practically ending his football tenure.
