British authorities has added eleven more nations to its travel advisory register concerning the threats of toxic alcohol toxicity from contaminated spirits.

The revised advisory covers Bangladesh, India, Iran, Jordan, Libya, Malawi, Malaysia, Morocco, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, and Rwanda due to reports of "a global increase in the frequency of confirmed occurrences" of methanol contamination.

Just last month, authorities had previously included Ecuador, Japan, Kenya, Mexico, Nigeria, Peru, Russia, and Uganda to the current list, in response to multiple notable incidents such as the tragic loss of six travelers in Laos in 2024.

Travellers are being advised that as little as small amounts of toxic alcohol can cause blindness or fatality within twelve to forty-eight hours.

Toxic alcohol is a toxic chemical often employed in coolant, windshield wiper fluid, and paint thinner. It is not intended for human consumption.

"While consuming alcohol in foreign countries, choose well-known venues and refrain from unlicensed drinks or complimentary drinks," the minister warned.

"Should anything appears suspicious, for example a hangover that's way worse than typical or blurred eyesight – get medical help fast."
